Goddess Taweret

This is a photo I took of the 'Great One' Taweret housed in the British Museum. Ancient Egyptians depicted her as a pregnant hippopotamus with legs and arms of a lion, the tail of a crocodile and human breasts. She had a special role in helping women in childbirth and was a favourite subject for amulets.
