These are some of the pictures I took of the many statues of the Goddess Sekhmet in the newly opened Temple of Mut in Luxor. Sekhmet was the patroness of doctors in ancient Egypt. She was a lion headed goddess who was thought to aid her priests in driving out the demons that caused sickness. Doctors were trained in her temples. Ancient Egyptian medical services were centred around temples, not just of Sekhmet but other deities too.
